Brian W. Dunn

Brian W. Dunn passed into God’s loving arms very suddenly and unexpectedly in Dec. 26, 2019.

Brian was born in 1955 to Bud D. Dunn and Burnetta Pearson Dunn in Salt Lake City, Utah. Brian attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from Skyline High School. After graduation Brian served a LDS mission to Taiwan where he became proficient in speaking and writing Mandarin Chinese.

Brian began working in the family pharmacy-hardware business at a very young age, so upon his return from the mission field, he began studies in pharmacy at the University of Utah. Following in the footsteps of his father and older brother. Brian soon realized that pharmacy would not be his vocation and proceeded to get his general contractors license and started his own business, but continued to work in the family store as well. In 1978 Brian accepted a position in the hardware division of Strevell-Paterson, a distributor in Salt Lake City where he was soon promoted to outside sales and where he met his future wife, Carol.

In 1979 Brian began a career with True Value Hardware Stores as a territory manager in Northern California. In 1980 Brian and Carol were married and settled in Citrus Heights, Calif., for a short time before moving to El Dorado Hills, Calif., in 1981. In 1985 Brian and Carol were blessed with son Steven and in 1990 with son Michael. Brian was soon promoted to regional manager for True Value covering California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada and eventually became the national marketing and training director for True Value’s Point of Sale Computer System traveling the country putting on training seminars for the hardware store member owners.

In 1994 Brian left True Value and started his own computer consulting business in El Dorado Hills where he kept up his exceptional customer service and work ethic until his death. Brian never lost sight of the old True Value slogan “True Value, more than just a name, it’s our way of doing business.” Pretty much everyone that came to Brian for business left as not only a permanent customer, but a lifelong friend. Brian’s sons have worked side by side with their Dad for 10 years and will endeavor to maintain the standards Brian set to continue their father’s legacy.

Brian loved to take his sailboat out on Folsom Lake and his Jeeps on the Jeepers Jamboree across the Rubicon Trail with his boys. In his younger days he experienced the thrill of racing dirt bikes and never lost his ever-present sense of adventure. He treasured good times with family and friends at the ranch in Utah. A trip with friends for make your own salad at “Jack’s” with an Arnold Palmer, ”stronger on the lemonade” was his idea of a perfect evening.

Brian was always ready to help anyone with a construction project no matter how big or small. He was right at home hammering the nails or drawing the plans. He just had an innate talent for being able to see the finished product in his mind’s eye and knew how to get it done from start to finish.

Brian had a unique sense of humor and an infectious outgoing personality. There were no strangers to Brian, everyone was Brian’s friend. He always stood ready to help anyone with anything they needed. 

Brian was pre-deceased by his grandparents, his mother, Burnetta, his older brother Rod, and recently by his younger brother, Paul. He is survived by his wife Carol and son’s; Steven (fiancée Ashley) and Michael. His older brother Rod’s wife Linda and her son’s; Jeff (Sara Jane) and their children and Jason (Cami) and their children. His sister Kathie and husband Kevin and her children Roger (Amanda), Angela (Kable) and Jana (Broc). His younger brother Paul’s wife Holli and her children; Coleman (Kira), Jake, Mitchell and Rachael.

Brian was well loved by his family and widely known and well respected in the El Dorado Hills community. He will be truly missed.

Services by Green Valley Mortuary are Wednesday Jan. 8, 2020. LDS Chapel, 1275 Green Valley Road, El Dorado Hills, Calif. Visitation 12:30-2 p.m., services 2 p.m., reception following. Burial at Green Valley Cemetery, Rescue, Calif.
