In Memory

Cindy Shimizu (Maestas)

Cindy Lee Maestas.  She Will Be Missed Cindy Lee Maestas (formerly Lamb,  Shimizu) lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on November 9, 2006. Cindy spent almost all of her nearly 52 years living in Salt Lake City surrounded by, caring for, living and being loved by her family and friends, and she died the same way. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Gordon Maestas; her children, Jeff and Jessica Lamb; her siblings, Debbie Rice, Mark Shimizu, Stacey Shimizu, and Birgitta Humphrey; by the members of the 'widow's club'; and by her many friends. The daughter of Nisei, Cindy danced in the Obon Festival, made mochi by hand, and for a while played the taiko drum. As the child of Swede, she baked peparkakor at Christmas, loved the snow but hated the cold, and had a dry, sly, wicked sense of humor. Like her mother and grandmother before her, found great pleasure in small animals and growing things; one of her great comforts while ill was to sit in the sunlight in her garden and watch the birds at their bath. In the end, she wished that those who knew her would think of her whenever they saw a hummingbird in flight. No funeral service is planned. Instead, Cindy wanted a celebration with lots of good food, plenty of good drink, and even more laughter. Friends are invited to join her family in lifting a glass in her honor from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the home of Kathy Lambert, 5144 South 2100 East. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Cindy's name.
