Rick Christiansen

Rick Lynn Christiansen 1955 ~ 2010 Rick Lynn Christiansen passed away at home August 10, 2010 after a short, peaceful bout with cancer. Rick was born August 26th, 1955 in Murray, Utah to Waldemar and Twyla Christiansen. He was raised here in Salt Lake where he quickly developed a love and passion for construction and engineering. He attended Skyline High School and earned a journeyman carpenter certification soon afterwards from the Utah Technical College. Later he attended the University of Utah engineering and drafting program. Rick was a brilliant designer and master craftsman who produced numerous projects, ranging in degree of difficulty from handmade furniture to office buildings and casino hotels. His passion for this field was evident within the beauty and symmetry that characterized the essence of his work. Rick also had a passion for boats and other watercraft, fishing, scuba diving, and motorcycles. He enjoyed diving for salvaged boats and then rebuilding and reconstructing them. Most recently he rebuilt a 1970 Tollycraft from a salvaged hull and refurbished components. He developed the wooden interior from raw lumber, designing a cabin finished with a deluxe decor complete with all the amenities of a new factory production. Rick married Lee Ann Newby in Salt Lake City, in December of 1975; divorced in 1991. Survived by step-son Aaron Lee Manzanares, daughter Rickie Lee Ryan, granddaughter Mailee Ann Torgerson, father Wally Christian-sen, sister Diane Reeve-Brinton, brothers Dee W. Christiansen, Alan Brent Christiansen, and David Keith Christiansen. Preceded in death by sister Tina Christine Christiansen, mother Twyla Viola Christiansen, and brother Wally Phil Christiansen. There will be no formal services, Rick chose to donate his body to the University of Utah science department and will have a monument at the Christiansen family plot in the Salt Lake City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society . Remembrances and condolences may be sent to the family via email to christiansen.familytrust@gmail.com. The Christiansen family wishes express gratitude for the compassionate and comprehensive care Rick received from the hospice personnel.
