Shirley Norton

Shirley Jean Norton 11/24/54 ~ 11/18/02  Shirley, you missed your 48th birthday by six days. You are loved and will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing you, and being inspired by you. You showed tremendous courage and strength facing diabetes, kidney failure, dialysis and transplant surgery. You endured it all with independence and did not complain. You lived your life to its fullest. Your dog Zombie loves you and misses you. He is OK. We are proud of your accomplishments. We would like to thank the doctors and staff who took such great care of you.  We love you and will miss you. Marilyn & James Memmott & family.

It used to infuriate me sitting next to Shirley in shorthand class (talk about subjects becoming obsolete). It seemed so effortless to her, and she always got her letters transcribed so much faster (and with fewer errors) than I did.  But it was fun talking and laughing with her while waiting for class to start.  Sorry to hear she's no longer with us!

Shirley and I were friends the last 2 yrs at Skyline, we had lockers next to each other Junior year.  I was so jealous that she turned 18 in time to vote for McGovern in the 1972 election while I had to wait 4 more years! I also remember the boat of a car she drove that had a stem shifter-it always amazed me that she could shift it so quick and smoothly! Probably the same skill set that made her so wickedly fast at shorthand!
